U.S. Army Veteran Bringing Military Precision to Career Strategy

Most people hear "Army" and picture weapons, deployments, or physical training.

When I tell people I was an NBC Specialist, known today as a CBRNE Specialist, they usually pause and ask, "What exactly does that mean?"

The simplest answer is this: my job was to prepare people for the worst day they hoped would never come.

I was responsible for reconnaissance, gathering information, evaluating potential threats, and creating contingency plans if my unit ever encountered a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear attack. I trained Soldiers how to properly maintain their protective equipment, how to trust it, and, most importantly, how to trust themselves when everything around them felt uncertain.

I often found myself standing in front of Soldiers who had decades more life experience than I did and a much higher rank than I had. At first, that was intimidating, but I quickly learned that leadership isn't about age or rank. It's about earning trust, listening carefully, communicating clearly, and giving people the confidence to move forward when the path ahead isn't obvious.

Looking back, I realize I never really stopped doing that.

Today, I don't prepare people for their worst days—I prepare them for their best days during life's transitions, which can be just as scary:

Career changes.

Military-to-civilian transitions.

College decisions.

Moments when someone feels stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what comes next.

Just like I did in the Army, I begin by gathering information. I listen. I assess the situation from every angle. I look for patterns that others may not see. Then we build a plan—one that's realistic, intentional, and designed around the person sitting in front of me, not a one-size-fits-all solution.

My years as a School Certifying Official for veterans only strengthened that mindset. Every veteran and every student has a different story. Regulations are complex, circumstances are unique, and there is rarely a single "right" answer. That role taught me patience, empathy, attention to detail, and the importance of seeing the whole picture before offering guidance.

When people ask what makes me different as a career coach, it isn't just my certifications or professional experience.

It's that I've spent my career helping people navigate uncertainty.

Whether I was protecting Soldiers, serving veterans, or coaching clients toward meaningful careers, my mission has always been the same: understand the situation, create a thoughtful plan, and help people move forward with confidence.

Because sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone isn't all the answers—it's the confidence to take the next step.

Building Careers Through Insight and Personalized Strategy

Michelle's coaching practice emerged from years of working directly with job seekers, employers, and academic institutions to identify what creates successful employment matches. She witnessed firsthand how talented individuals struggle when they can't articulate their value in terms employers recognize, and how veterans often undersell their leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability because they don't know how to translate military language into civilian relevance.

Western Colorado's economy blends outdoor recreation, energy, healthcare, education, and agriculture—industries that value different skill sets and require tailored positioning strategies. Whether you're a veteran transitioning out of service, a mid-career professional considering a pivot, or someone seeking clarity about direction, Michelle's coaching focuses on aligning your experience with local and regional opportunities.

Her background in finance and higher education provides a practical framework for career planning. You won't receive generic advice about "following your passion" or surface-level resume tips. Instead, coaching sessions dig into what you've accomplished, what skills you've developed, how you make decisions, and what kinds of work environments support your strengths. Michelle then helps you build a strategy that positions you effectively and prepares you to communicate your value clearly during interviews and networking conversations.

For the past several years, Michelle has remained deeply involved in the veteran community, advocating for service members and connecting them with resources. That commitment continues through Career Solutions By Michelle, where veteran clients benefit from working with someone who understands military culture, respects the discipline and leadership service members bring, and knows how to help them succeed in civilian careers.
